Elden Ring has just launched worldwide and fans are chomping at the bit to use the Guts-inspired Greatsword that featured in the Berserk manga.

From the scale of its map to the diversity in characters, Elden Ring is a big game – as in a very, very, very big game.

One of the most satisfying aspects of previous FromSoftware titles has been the weapons available to players, specifically the exploration, acquisition and upgrades for the countless unique weapons in the game.

However, it seems that one particular Elden Ring weapon has grabbed the attention of fans around the world, one that appears to be inspired by the classic manga series, Berserk.

Elden Ring features Guts’ Greatsword

Elden Ring features a myriad of exotic and enticing weapons that players can use to defeat the demons and monsters found in FromSoftware’s new title.

However, players have the opportunity to acquire the Standard Greatsword, which by many reports is a direct reference to Kento Miura’s iconic manga series, Berserk.

The Greatsword bears a striking resemblance to the weapon used by Berserk’s main character, Guts. One user on Reddit argued that “Miyazaki re-designed the Greatsword from its DS2/3 design to this for Elden Ring. I believe this is From’s way of honoring Kentaro and Guts.”

The item’s description for the weapon says, “A coarse iron lump of an ultra greatsword. Mows down foes by using its incredible weight.”

“Though handling it likely requires the wielder to have surpassed the realm of the merely human, it is precisely for this reason the weapon is used to slaughter even inhuman foes.” – Weapon description, via Reddit.

The Guts-inspired greatsword can be found in a chest on the back of an abandoned carriage on the road between Caelum Ruins and Rotview Balcony Sites of Grace, in the Caelid region (East of Limgrave).

Powerful enemies guard the carriage, but players have the option of simply using stealth to sneak past and grab the loot before being detected. The good news for those of us who aren’t very good at the game and die, there is a Stake of Marika nearby for an easy respawn.

As noted by Attack Of The Fanboy, the Berserk-inspired weapon may not be as powerful as other similar-type weapons in the game. However, “It deals 164 damage without any upgrades and scales really well with Strength, making it perfect for Strength-centric builds.”

More Berserk-inspired easter eggs in Elden Ring

Whilst the Berserk-inspired greatsword is sure to excite fans of the iconic manga, many believe that the Elden Ring game is packed with nods to Kento Miura’s original series.

This, most notably, comes in the form of the armor options available to players. As explained by fans on social media, members of the community are arguing that a red-headed knight from the Elden Ring trailer sleeps a Farnese-inspired helmet. This headgear can be seen as a gold helmet with angel wings which, based on the images shared online, is almost exactly the same as the one from the game.

The same can also be said for the main battle armor for a swordsman from the original Elden Ring trailer, which appears similar to the Berserker armor that swallowed Guts in the series – accompanied also by a howling wolf.

Dualshockers also detail how a helmet worn by the Skull Knight is very similar to a helmet worn by a character in the trailer, noting that “it’s very likely characters modeled after either Skull Knight, Griffith, Casca, Zodd, or other iconic Berserk character will appear in the game.”

Where to read and watch Berserk online

If you are a fan of the original series or are a new player to Elden Ring’s open world, there will definitely be a temptation to revisit the Berserk manga and anime.

The 24-episode modern anime adaptation premiered in July 2016 and run through until June 2017. The entire series is available to watch online via Crunchyroll as well as a select number of international versions of Amazon Prime Video.

The manga series can be purchased through various online retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and Indigo. A digital version is also available from Dark Horse and Amazon’s Comixology.
