What is Call of the Night About?

call of the night is based on the manga of the same name by Kotoyama, who is also known for creating the cult classic romcom Dagashi Kashi.

Similar to Dagashi Kashi, call of the night is a slice-of-life teen romance anime, albeit with an added element of fantasy.

The story follows Kou Yamori, a seemingly ordinary boy who, disillusioned by life, decides to quit high school. With nothing to do and no inspiration, he develops insomnia and starts walking the streets alone at night.

On one walk he meets a strange girl called Nazuna Nanakusa, who shares with him the joys of night walking. When Kou discovers that Nazuna is actually a vampire, he is not put off, and the two form a bond while exploring the enticing call of the night.

The timer above is currently set for the earliest possible time call of the night could realistically premiere: Thursday, July 7 at 11:45 AM Eastern Time. Once we know the official release date, we will update this countdown.

Where to Watch Call of the Night

call of the night will air in Japan on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block. It is not confirmed where the series will stream for international viewers, although it’s expected to be on Crunchyroll.

There is a slight chance that Call of the Night could appear on Netflix. Many of Fuji TV’s recent series have been released as Netflix originals in western regions, including The Great Pretender, BNA and Beastars.

However, the most likely location for Call of the Night remains Crunchyroll. Fuji TV recently announced a partnership with Crunchyroll regarding another animation block, +Ultra.

Crunchyroll has also been covering call of the night news, which can sometimes be a sign of what they’re planning to air, although not a guarantee.

As of the time of writing, there is no news regarding how many episodes call of the night will have. There is also no news of an English dub, although this isn’t usually announced until the series starts airing.

What Studio is Producing Call of the Night?

call of the night is being produced by LIDENFILMS, a studio most known for producing the hugely popular tokyo revenge.

More recently, LIDENFILMS were the studio behind the badminton series Salaryman’s Club and they are also producing Netflix’s anticipated series BASTARD‼ Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy.

Perhaps more notable than the studio, though, is the prestigious staff attached to the project.

call of the night will be directed by Tomoyuki Itamura, a hugely-respected name behind much of the notorious Monogatari series and, more recently, the vampire series Case Study of Vanitas.

The script is being handled by Michiko Yokote, another notable staff member who did the scripts for smash-hit Gintama and some episodes of cowboy bebop.

Kou will be voiced by Gen Satou, most known for playing Chrome in Dr Stone. Nazuna, meanwhile, will be voiced by Sora Amamiya, one of the most popular female VAs behind Tokyo Ghoul’s Touka, Akame in Akame Ga Kill and, more recently, Himuro in Science Fell in Love.
