10 IT WAS THE HIGHEST GROSSING NARUTO FILM FOR A WHILE

road to ninja was received very well by audiences in Japan and earned a United States total of $3,799,276 in the Japanese box office. After a while the film reached sales of over ¥1 billion which equates to over $12.7 million in the US This put it on track to be the highest-grossing film in the Naruto movieseries.

The previous film that carried this title was the film Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow which reached 1.37 billion yen which translates over to$17.4 million US dollars. However, it was surpassed by The Last: Naruto the Movie in 2014.

9 IT TOOK PLACE ENTIRELY IN THE GENJUTSU WORLD

Naruto isn’t the type of series that usually delves into alternate dimensions but this film was an exception and opened the door to the multiverse in the series. road to ninja is a film about Tobi using his Limited Tsukuyomi to send Naruto and Sakura into the Genjutsu World so of course, it takes place there.

This alternate world is much like the average one but the twist is that the cast of characters has different personalities and behaviors than their original selves. Some still act the same though.

8 IT RECEIVED A SAKURA TIE-IN EPISODE

road to ninja is one of the Naruto films that were given a lot of tie-in promotional material which most likely is the reason that it became so profitable. One of the many tie-ins that this film received is titled “Road to Sakura” which is an anime episode that focused on the Genjutsu World version of Sakura.

The episode features this version of Sakura falling into the main reality of Naruto. Ella she’s acting funny which makes everyone believe that she’s suffering from amnesia. However, after a bit of experiencing this new reality she returns home in a flash of light right before Ino’s eyes from her.

7 THERE WAS A MANGA ONE-SHOT PREQUEL TO THE FILM

Another tie-in that came from this film was the manga one-shot titled prequel Road to Naruto the Movie. This manga was not necessary reading material for those interested in the film but it did fill in a few of the gaps that came from the movie’s beginning. It is mostly some slice of life moments that end with Tobi learning Naruto’s fears and desires from him before sending him into the Genjustu World with his Tsukuyomi.

This manga one-shot was later given its own adaptation in anime form with Naruto: Shippūden‘s 311st episode.

6 THERE WAS ALSO A SASUKE TIE-IN

One of the more odd tie-ins to the film was the one that revolved around the ever-popular Sasuke of the Genjutsu World. The odd thing about this tie-in is that it didn’t come in the form of a manga one-shot nor an anime episode but a drama CD that came with special edition DVD and Blu-Ray releases of the film after its theatrical run .

This CD tie-in was titled Road to Charasuke and it focused on a very romantic Sasuke that not only falls in love with Sakura but Hinata as well. It doesn’t end well for him either due to a bit of necessary meddling.

5 IT WAS CREATED BY THE ORIGINAL MANGAKA OF THE SERIES

Naruto‘s original creator was the mind behind this original film which is a bit of a surprise, as many spinoff films that come from different shonen manga and anime are many times given to someone else to create.

In the case of road to ninja things changed up. Masashi Kishimoto personally created the story of this film and also designed all of the characters for the movie as well. This could be another reason that this film generated so much buzz when compared to the other Naruto films.

4 THE FILM IS NON-CANON

Another thing that many times goes for anime films is that when the original creator is the mind behind it it is usually used as canon material to the main series. However, this isn’t the case for road to ninja as the film has too many inconsistencies with the main series that was running alongside its release.

The time frame that this movie takes place during makes no sense when compared with the events going on with the manga and anime. It mostly messes with the events that take place during Naruto’s time on the Island Turtle.

3 THE FILM HAS A FEW INCONSISTENCIES

Speaking of inconsistencies, the film actually has a few of them in itself. This is something that is fairly common in the world of animation, as at times animators can slip up and draw something different than it was in a previous scene. The animators and artists of Naruto are apparently no different.

In the scene where Naruto and Sakura see Sakura’s father, Kizashi’s face in Hokage Rock he is facing the center of the memorial. However, in a later scene, his focus is changed with him looking in the direction that Tsunade is facing.

two A POSTER FOR THE FILM IS IN THE SAKURA TIE-IN

The shilling of this film literally knew no bounds before its release. A testament to this claim is the fact that there is a literal poster for the film that can be seen in the tie-in episode “Road to Sakura”.

The poster can be found on a fence beside a tree in the world that the Genjustu World Sakura fell into from the sky.

1 SASORI OF THE GENJUSTU WORLD DOESN’T USE HUMAN PUPPETS

As said earlier, the Genjutsu World version of the Naruto characters usually have great differences from their canon counterparts. This goes for Sasori as well as his puppets from him are not the usual human brand.

The only puppet he is seen using is Sanshouo and it is unknown if his body is modified or not.
